HOW CAN LAW STUDENTS MAKE THE MOST OF LOCKDOWN
Due to this pandemic situation, every industry has been affected badly and it will take a lot of time to normalize the situation. One of the industries is the education sector. The schools and universities have been closed down for an indefinite time until the situation normalizes and a vaccine to cure Corona Virus has been made.
Usually, during this time, the law students all over India plan for internships at Law Firms, Practising Advocates, Various Courts and NGO’s, etc. Due to the lockdown, most people prefer to work from home and students are being hired for virtual internships nowadays. Technology has played an important role during this pandemic situation. Universities have started taking online classes; webinars are being organised, online courses, etc.
Students can do things which can improve their knowledge and CV. To remove the confusion among students as to what options they have to make their quarantine effective, useful and efficient are:
- Articles or Research Paper:
Students can write a lot of articles, blogs, case commentaries, essays and research papers. One can publish those writings to various journals or blogging sites. Many Universities have websites which accept such writings and publish them with your name as a writer. Prefer publishing in the journals that have ISSN or ISBN Number. It increases the authenticity of the journal.
- Online Courses:
During the era of technology, many organisations, advocates and universities are providing online certificate courses of law-related courses, either free of cost or by charging reasonable prices. Platforms like Coursera, LawSikho, Enhilion and Udemy etc. are providing such courses. Students of law who aim for the judiciary or further studies are being provided with online coaching classes so that students can utilise best of their time.
- Virtual Internships:
Due to nationwide lockdown, no firms or advocates are opening their offices and the courts are also moving towards E-Judiciary. The country demands the Law system to be more active nowadays. The lawyers and officers of the law are burdened some with a lot of research work. The law students can apply for remote internships as they can’t go to offices for work. Students should make the best of this pandemic situation by getting legal and practical knowledge. During internships, the students can assist the advocates in a case by research work or by researching a particular law. Some of these internships are paid as well. Internships will add value to your CV as well and this will depict your sincerity towards your profession. Update your Linkedin profile as well as to garb such opportunities.
- Webinars and online videos:
Nowadays, many organisations, academicians and advocates are organising webinars on the recent topics of law to make students aware about them. Sometimes, if a student doesn’t feel like doing research work or writing, he/she can join the webinars being conducted on video conferencing apps. Students can also utilise their time by watching videos on topics related to various laws on YouTube and clear their concepts about the same. Not all laws are taught in law schools. Students can learn those laws through such webinars and YouTube lectures as well.
- Participation in online competitions:
Students can also participate in the online competitions which are being conducted by the universities and legal education platforms such as Moot Court Competition, Quizzes, Article Writing Competitions, etc..
NOTE: All information about webinars, internships, competitions, call for papers and blogs etc., are being updated to the websites such as Lawctopus, Rostrum Legal, Linkedin. Don’t overburden yourself and enjoy some time with your family as well.
