Uncategorized

It is said that only the good die young. Shamnaad Basheer, alumni of NLSIU Banglore, passed away in a tragic accident. He was on is way to a medical check-up, due to return to Bangalore on the 5thof August. Two days later, the distressed family along with the help of the local police discovered that he met with an accident on his way back. Reportedly, the car was swept away due to heavy downpour and landslides in the Chickmagalur region. Mr. Basheer succumbed to asphyxiation. The last rites are scheduled to be performed on 9th August,2019 in his home town in Kerala.

Mr. Basheer was a visionary in every sense of the word. He has completed his post-graduation as a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) in the University of Oxford as a shell centenary scholar. He was an eminent personality in the regime of Intellectual property law and has made significant contributions towards its development. One of the most prodigious initiatives by Mr. Basheer was IDIA.The “Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access” project was initiated to reach out to the marginalized and under-represented groups, sensitize them to law as a viable career option and help interested students acquire admission to law schoolsand aid in imparting legal education across India.Almost all law schools today have a Chapter which is responsible for fundraising, sensitization, Training/Mentorship and Legal Services.

In these turbulent times, it is crucial for the legal fraternity to carry forward the ideals and values of Mr Basheer, in spirit and in service. He would have wanted the same, his vision, to reach the zenith.

INBA stands in solidarity with IDIA. May his soul rest in peace.
