Chinese Virologist: China’s Government ‘Intentionally’ Released COVID-19

Chinese whistle blower virologist Li-Meng Yan, who was forced to flee the country after raising questions about the origin of SARS-COV-2, has once again said the Covid-19 virus was developed in a Chinese laboratory, a claim that was earlier denied by both Beijing and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

In a fresh interview with the US-based The National Pulse, she said she is planning to release scientific evidence to prove that the virus was made inside a lab in Wuhan. “The Covid-19 was lab modified based on a virus discovered and owned by the Chinese military, the Zhoushan bat coronavirus, ZC45 and ZXC21. My scientific report will be out soon.”

She had previously said in an interview with Taiwan News that this strain of the coronavirus was developed in a Chinese military facility controlled by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

In a July interview with Spanish daily El Mundo, she said she was gathering “solid evidence” to demonstrate that the virus did not originate in a wet market in Wuhan.

In another chat with British broadcaster ITV, the virologist had said: “The [virus] genome sequence is like a fingerprint. Based on that, you can identify things. I will use this evidence to tell people why this came from a laboratory in China and why they are the ones who developed it.”

Li-Meng, who specialised in virology and immunology at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, said she conducted two researches on a new strain of pneumonia in China, first between December and early January and the second in mid-January. “I decided to report this development to my supervisor, who is also a WHO consultant. There was no response from the WHO and my supervisor. Everyone warned me that do not cross the right line and keep silent, else I would be made to disappear,” she said.

She fled China in April and has been hiding in the US. She claimed China has launched a campaign to discredit her and to smear her reputation. Several countries, including the US, have alleged that China and WHO have covered up the severity of the coronavirus outbreak.
