New CJI Justice NV Ramana To Take Oath As 48th Chief Justice Of India On April 24

After President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday announced that Justice NV Ramana has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI), many political leaders took to Twitter to congratulate the 48th CJI. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed his “heartiest” congratulations. He wrote, “My best wishes for your successful and fruitful tenure”.

Last month, incumbent CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde recommended Justice Ramana’s name as his successor to the Union law ministry. CJI Bobde will retire on April 23.

President Ram Nath Kovind on April 6 formally appointed Supreme Court judge, Justice NV Ramana, as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Ramana will assume charge as the 48th CJI on April 24, a day after the retirement of incumbent CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, Judge of the Supreme Court, to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from 24th April 2021,” an official notification said.
