WORLD’S FIRST EVER UNIVERSITY

Taxila or Takshshila situated in the Punjab region of Pakistan is the first ever University in the world. Though some of the archaeologists claim that it wasn’t the first university & Nalanda was the first university. But during its time it was the sole education institution which had seen students from China, Greece & Arabia. Kautilya, Panini & Charaka were some of them who were alumni of the institution. It has been said that Takshila is known for the Arthshastra which was written by Kautilya in Taxila dirung the Mauryan reign.

The University was operational for 800 years. It consisted of 300 lectures halls, laboratories, astronomical observatory known as Ambhudharaaveli & a massive library known as Dharm Gunj. But with the passage of time & several invasions the University came to an end. But after the excavation of this site, this site was declared as world heritage site by UNESCO.
