First Elected Women Chairperson Of UP Bar Council Shot Dead
The newly elected chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, Darvesh Kumari Yadav, 38, was shot dead by a colleague in her chamber on the civil court premises on June 12.
The colleague, Manish Babu Sharma who is a civil advocate in Agra district court, fired at her thrice after an altercation and then shot himself in the head. He is battling for life in hospital. The police have yet to ascertain the motive for the murder.
Earlier, she shared a chamber with Manish Babu Sharma and long-time associate and worked together for a decade but had shifted to Mishra’s chamber probably due to some differences with him.
Yadav’s colleagues say that she was a workaholic, who had previously become the vice-chairperson for a 5-year term. Two days ago, after being re-elected as a member of the Bar Council defeating at least ten women candidates, she also got the majority of the votes from the 25-member council.
The possibility might be, she as a woman becoming a Chairman of the Council. Laws are been enacted for the safety of women at work place but here even the upholders of law are not safe and day by the situation for women is only deteriorating.
