NUJS MUN Crisis Summit’19
National University of Judicial Science, Kolkata recently organized an MUN Crisis Summit. The summit took place from 11th of January 2019 to 13th of January 2019. It saw great participation from the different colleges and schools. The 8th NUJS MUN Crisis Summit 2019 was organized in association with Eastern Book Company & SCC Online Web Edition as the “Knowledge Partner”. The MUN also implemented an Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy drafted by Agastya Sharma Sen. From the delegates to the Executive Board and the International Press, the MUN was a successful event with great personalities joining hands and making it worth the experience.
The Crisis Summit was divided in six committees namely: the War council of Winston Churchill, the Emergency Board meeting of Enron, the United Nations General Assembly Emergency Special Session over Rwanda Genocide, the Pakistan War council, the State Reorganization Committee and the United Nations Security Council discussing the situation in Balochistan.
After one of the most successful press corps run in 2018 by Khushnaaz Homavazir who is currently pursuing her degree from Amity Film School, she was selected to head the MUN International Press. Another person on board was Jannani Murugan who currently pursuing her BA LLB Hons degree from the NUJS, Kolkata. She has been an integral part of the press cell of the Student Juridical Association where she has press released articles that have caught the international and national media’s eye. She has also interviewed many people on top of their careers and believes in the power of journalism and storytelling.
Arjun Singh Rana was the crisis director. He has participated in 17 MUNs as a delegate, and bagged 12 best delegates. The rest of his half a dozen MUNs have been spent chairing various committees. He was part of MUNQS, the MUN society of DPS Mathura Road and a Security Council specialist with a knack for International law since his school days.
The Emergency Special Session of the UNGA, was a crisis committee set in 1994 trying to stop one of the worst massacres the world has ever seen, the Rwandan Genocide. Presiding over this council were Abhigyan Saha, Muskan Arora and Aditya Kumar.
Abhigyan Saha who is currently pursuing his integrated Masters of Science in Mathematics(major) and Physics(minor) at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata. He has thus far participated in nearly 60 MUNs since 2012 as a delegate, organizing committee member; and in the capacity of Chairperson across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Singapore.
Aditya Kumar is an Electrical Engineering graduate from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. One of the most experienced members of the circuit with over 55 MUNs, he is also one of the most accomplished having won several awards and chaired many a conference.
Muskan Arora is a second year student at National University of Juridical Sciences. At NUJS, she dedicates much of her time to activities involving public speaking.
The Emergency Board Meeting of Enron was presided over by Rudraksh Lakra, Prithwiraj Basuand Anoushka Soni.
Rudraksh Lakra has been part of the MUN circuit for the last 7 years and has participated in over 90 MUNs. He is currently pursuing a degree in Law in the Jindal Global Law School.
Hailing from the Department of Economics in Jadavpur University, Prithwiraj grew fond of MUNs gradually through his days in college. He has done a number of MUNs all across India and takes deep interest in International Politics.
Anoushka Soni is 2nd Year Law Student at NUJS who has been a delegate and chaired at multiple conferences with exemplary performances always leaving her peers wanting more.
The State Reorganization Commission was being presided over by Vijay Tyagi and Suvayan Sen Gupta.
Vijay Tyagi is a Law Graduate from Campus Law Centre and Electronics Graduate from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He is currently serving as the Legislative Assistant to Member of Parliament (LAMP) Fellow. His area of interest includes Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property Laws and Company Laws.
Suvayan Sen Gupta has participated in several national and international MUN’s over the past 4 years both as a delegate and as an EB member. He has also served as the Secretary General of Thsmun 2017. Currently he is pursuing his undergraduate degree at Sciences Po Paris Campus Du Havre.
The War Cabinet of Pakistan was being presided over by Ayush R and Nilesh Agarwal.
Ayush has been doing Model UN for a few years around the country. With over 80 national and international conferences under his belt (Including as a chair at Oxford university).
Nilesh Agarwal is an Economics undergraduate from Jadavpur University. He has been a part of many conferences.
The War Cabinet of Winston Churchill was presided over by Rajarshi Roy and Soham Chakraborty.
Soham has participated in over 30 MUNs and won in almost every single one.
Rajarshi Roy was the only school kid to have read ICJ judgments and has won accolades in all different MUNs that he has been a part of around the country.
The United Nations Security Council was presided over by Mr. Agastya Sen. Agastya has participated in over 70 MUNs, and over 30 of them have been Security Councils. He is currently studying law in the National University of Juridical Sciences.
Rahul Das, a distinguished member of the MUN circuit will be serving as the Vice President of the Security Council. He has participated in over 45 MUNs and has presided over several councils in his over 4 years of experience. He was the Secretary General of The Heritage School MUN in 2016 and has since been pursuing a major in History and International Relations from Ashoka University.
The MUN was conducted over three days and was simulated by various engaging committees and catered to a great range of delegates.
